Want to get a book published?

The ACT Writer's Centre is presenting a fantastic opportunity for anyone who has written a story for children or young adults, and they want to get it published.

Children’s Book and Young Adult Publishing Consultations with Mark McLeod will be held on Friday 6 February beginning at 9am.
  • Cost for a 30-minute consultation is only $60 for ACT Writers Centre members ($95 for non-members).
  • All consultations will be held at the ACT Writers Centre.
  • Payment by credit card at time of booking on 6262 9191 (you will need to select a time from the spots available).

Publishing houses are so under-staffed that getting specific feedback from them is notoriously difficult. But here’s a great opportunity! Working for many of the biggest publishers in Australia has given Mark MacLeod useful information about what they are looking for and what will sell. Bring to the consultation a couple of picture book texts, samples from your illustration portfolio, or a chapter from your novel, along with a short synopsis. Mark will help you to identify your next steps and maximise your chances of publication.

Mark MacLeod is an award-winning publisher, writer, speaker and television presenter. He co-ordinated courses in Children’s Literature and Australian Literature at Macquarie University before becoming Children's Publishing Director at Random House Australia for ten years. He published books for young readers and for adults under his own name imprint at Hodder Headline and was Project Manager of My Favourite Book for ABC TV in 2004. Mark was President of the Children's Book Council of Australia in 2005-6. In 2001, he won the CBCA Lady Cutler Award and in 2003 the Australian Publishers Association Pixie O'Harris Award for distinguished services to children’s literature.
