The work of six authors, illustrators, publishers and book designers on display reveals their creative collaboration through picture books. Explore their ideas through early drafts, correspondence, rough sketches, storyboards, dummies, finished artwork, and much more. Highlights include the graphic novel ‘Dreamwalker’ by Isobelle Carmody and Steven Woolman, ‘Going Home’ by Margaret Wild and Wayne Harris, ‘My Dog’ by John Heffernan and Andrew McLean, ‘The Hottest Boy Who Ever Lived’ by Anna Fienberg and Kim Gamble, and ‘Farmer Schultz’s Ducks’ by Colin Thiele and Mary Milton.
The exhibition will be opened by Margaret Hamilton AM, the publisher of ‘My Dog’ which is part of the exhibition. Margaret's entire life has been a passionate affair with children’s books, as children’s librarian, bookseller and publisher. She was one of Australia’s first independent children’s publishers, and previously the Publishing Director at Hodder & Stoughton Australia. Many of her books have been award winners. She is a multi-award winner herself: the NSW Lady Cutler Award, the ABPA Pixie O’Harris Award, the Dromkeen Medal, the Nan Chauncy Medal, and an AM on Australia Day 2008. Through her efforts, The Children’s Book Council of Australia raised $1,000,000 to fund the Book Council’s awards in perpetuity.
