17 November 2009

NaNoWriMo is National Novel Writing Month, an exciting opportunity for both new and experienced writers. Described as "a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to novel writing" participants begin writing from 1 November with the aim of writing a 175-page (50,000-word) novel by the end of the month.

You can sign up to participate at anytime, but to be added to the official list of winners, you must reach the 50,000-word mark by midnight on 30 November.

National Novel Writing Month began ten years ago in the United States and has spread around the world, including to Canberra where some local writers have been inspired to participate.

The reasons [to participate] are endless! To actively participate in one of our era's most enchanting art forms! To write without having to obsess over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from our novels at parties. To be able to mock real novelists who dawdle on and on, taking far longer than 30 days to produce their work.

Visit the official web site for stacks more information, and then get started. It's not too late!
