Jane Austen's fallen women: Lady Susan and Mansfield Park

Join the Friends of the National Library for a book club lecture by Professor Gillian Russell of the Australian National University. In this talk Professor Russell will discuss aspects of Mansfield Park, comparing it with an earlier and lesser known fiction which Austen never published, her novel in letters, Lady Susan. Both novels are notable for their interest in women who transgress the conventions of Regency Britain. Following the lecture participants will break into small groups to discuss the novels further over a glass of wine.
