Marching Band

Victoria Laney, 15,is a finalist in the 2010 ACT Human Rights Commission Annual Art Award for Marching Band.

Victoria says, My image is meant to demonstrate inclusion through the marching band, where everyone is part of the band. This is symbolised by the fact that everyone is wearing the same uniform. My picture also shows several people with disabilities. The girl leading the band represents social disabilities as she is alone, the cheerleaders with lower body injuries, the boy with a hearing aid and eye patch, the girl playing the drums represent mental disabilities and the person with the sheet music has a learning disability.

The finalists and winnners of the the ACT Human Rights Commission Annual Art Award are on display in the ACT Heritage Library, first floor of Woden Library, until 16 July.
