Geoff McPherson, Canberra Citizen of the Year 2004

Geoff McPherson is President of the Canberra Refugee Support (CRS).  The CRS is a community based organisation that offers support to improve the quality of life for refugee families who settle in Canberra.
A graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon with many years experience in project management and integrated logistic support, he put these skills to excellent use to assist, support and settle refugee families into the community. The work of Mr McPherson and CRS reduces anxiety, provides peace of mind and a sense of worth for traumatised refugees.
Geoff organises get-togethers, hosts meetings, runs training workshops, provides transport, furniture removal and provides hours of his personal time, effort and finances to any refugee who needs it. Geoff also provided support to people displaced by the January 18, 2003 bushfires in Canberra.

Geoff McPherson was named Canberra Citizen of the Year in 2004 for his work with the Canberra Refugee Group in assisting refugees to settle into the community.
Further biographical detail about Geoff McPherson is available on our website, as is a history of the Canberra Citizen of the Year Award and a full list of awardees.
The 40th consecutive Canberra Citizen of the Year will be announced by the Chief Minister during Canberra Day Celebrations in March 2016.
