Michael Gore, Canberran of the Year 1983

Founder of Questacon, Mike Gore contributed to the science education of countless children and adults, and had a "hell of a lot of fun doing it".

Born in England, He arrived in Canberra in 1960 to take up a post at the Australian National University. Mike founded Questacon in 1980 in the disused Ainslie Infants School where the staff and volunteers enthused children about science using visual learning principles, demonstration and theatrical technique.

Further biographical detail about Michael Gore is available on our website, as is a history of the Canberra Citizen of the Year Award and a full list of awardees.

The 40th consecutive Canberra Citizen of the Year will be announced by the Chief Minister during Canberra Day Celebrations in March 2016.
