Maureen Cane, Canberra Citizen of the Year 2011

Ms Maureen Cane was the Chief Executive Officer of Communities@Work from 2001 to 2011. Under her leadership, Communities@Work delivers services to approximately 10,000 people across Canberra, from 32 locations, providing disability support, respite care, family support, aged care and youth and children’s services. Communities@Work is a complex community organisation that is meeting the needs of a diverse and growing community.
Ms Cane was also instrumental in the implementation of the Canberra arm of OzHarvest, an organisation that collects excess food from hospitality and supermarket outlets and distributes the food to charities and refuges. Over 700,000 meals have been supplied within the Canberra community since the operation began in February 2008.
