Pat Power, Canberra Citizen of the Year 2009

Bishop Pat Power has devoted his life to providing a voice for those in the Canberra community who have difficulty speaking for themselves. He provides comfort and spiritual guidance to people in need and has always been prepared to speak out against prejudice and inequality, both within the Catholic Church, and within the community.

He has served on the ACT Churches Council, the Australian Social Justice Council and the Australian Catholic Bishops Committee for Justice, Development Ecology and Peace. He was also the first Catholic co-chairman of the Australian Anglican / Roman Catholic Dialogue Group (AustARC). Bishop Power passionately believes in justice, dignity and respect for all.
Further biographical detail about Pat Power is available on our website, as is a history of the Canberra Citizen of the Year Award and a full list of awardees.
The 40th consecutive Canberra Citizen of the Year will be announced by the Chief Minister during Canberra Day Celebrations in March 2016.
